The fortress as been modeled and rendered in Lightwave. As I'm not a great "organic" modeler so I have used some Daz3D caracters, prepared in DazStudio and imported and modified in Lightwave.
The sun rays are made by a volumetric light.
Some little modications & colors adjustements has been done in Photoshop.
(My job is to use 3D for historical reconstitutions, you can see other exemples on my web site : www.virtuhall.com)
If you want my serious serious serious opinion,...
i think everything looks WAYYyyyy too perfect
i mean i realise its suppose to be a graaaand castle
but put in a little flaws, nicks, holes here and there! make it look a bit used... With the tools from their time, i'd doubt them being able to create 100% symetrical walls, wood,...
The light, birds, textures, models are all great...
Just please make it look more medieval and not year 5023 :}

You are right about the to perfect edges or or the "too square" look of some elements like battle walls and I will modified this soon.
But for the symetrical look of the towers or elements, people of the middle age wre able too made complexe and symetrical elements. They have build the cathedrals for exemples.
A lot of castles are visibles in europe, that have not been restaured or reconstructed since the middle-age and even if some parts are rubbles, some parts that are still strong can show us some exemples of what could have been done.
I have put for you on this page of my web site: [link]
some photos of castels parts that are 600 or 700 years old. (The second is the real keep base of "Château Gaillard the Richard LionHeart castel that I have 3D reconstructed on another deviation)
In france some people are working for reconstruct a castle with tools like middle age. They have een contrcut the tools witn midle age methods and repair it with the same method and they extract stone like middle age method.
As they are few persons it wil take them years and years but it a vering interisting thing that learn us a lot.
Here a web site about it: [link]
Yes our ancestors were able to built clean and "right-angles" things )
But you are right about my pictures about some too perfect edges. I should pass some time in post-production to modify some wood or stone edges to give a more "hand-craft" look to the closest elements.

This article explores the basics of watchers and how we react to certain situations. Although it does not affect some deviants, and the tips are generally related to common sense, we hope the article is a worthwhile read and that the majority learn something from reading this.
